The unit used for messuring hearing loss is dB (dBHL) compared to the normal hearing.

Mild hearing loss

With mild hearing loss you notice you can not hear and understand everything others say, especially in noisy surroundings. Most of us notice when we become older, that the higher tones are less audible. A good hearing aid helps you bring back your ability to hear like you used to.

Moderate hearing loss

You have a moderate hearing loss when you have difficulty keeping up with conversations when not using a hearing aid. A hearing aid can help you function normally.

Severe hearing loss

With severe hearing loss you can feel isolated because you cannot understand what others say. A powerful hearing aid can usually help a lot in these cases. In a quiet environment, a hearing aid most likely will help with holding a conversation. However, in some cases it may be difficult to understand others, especially in noisy environments. In these cases you can start using tools such as lip reading or sign language.

Profound hearing loss

Some of us are hard-of-hearing, or can not hear at all. In some cases, this can be improved by surgery, but sometimes no treatment is possible. This depends on what is still functioning and what not. If your hearing can not be treated, communication can be established by lip reading or sign language.

Treatment

When you experience hearing loss, a hearing aid can help you hear well again in most cases and make you enjoy life to the fullest. Your hearing care professional can help you find the best solution. All it takes is a conversation to get started.
