• Is it difficult to carry a conversation over the telephone?

• Does it happen often that people tell you the TV volume is up too high?
• Do you have to strain to follow a conversation?
• Do you find it hard to hear when there’s background noise?
• Is it difficult to follow a conversation when multiple people are talking at the same time?
• Are you misunderstanding people or responding inappropriately?
• Are women and children harder for you to understand?
• Do you irritate people when you misunderstand them?

If you answer "yes" to three or more of these questions, you may want to see an otolaryngologist (an ear, nose, and throat specialist) or an audiologist for a hearing evaluation.
